These are some examples of my analysis work where I have gone ‘WOW!’ because the way it works is a revelation - an echo of seeing Q&E (Query and Edit) in Excel 4.0. (Full disclosure: I worked with the independent developer of Q&E in the early 1990’s and an exceptional colleague, Ron Waller, wrote a school timetabling system with it. Q&E evolved to Pivot Tables which also had the WOW! factor).

To qualify as a WOW it is because I know how difficult this would be otherwise or cases where I have enough familiarity with the material but never quite realized this aspect

Of course “You mileage may vary” but there is nothing to stop you doing your own analysis or choosing your own topic and voices and producing your own WOWs.

Can this advice be integrated into a framework for action and produced as a diagram

Which qualifies as a WOW! because of the structuring on the content and the illustration produced from a wide array of ‘incompatible’ sources (with no structured process or stated common themes)

Can you extract a set of principles which reflect the views of every author

Which qualifies as a WOW! because it ‘sweeps in’ very different views expressed in incompatible detail in the source material but abstracts out the common elements and agreements as principles

Question summary for Methodologies

Which qualifies as a WOW! because of how it manages the Dialectic producing the ‘average’ rephrased summary question but retaining the particular detail of the individual ‘same-as’ questions. Also this is one example of many which has a quantitative analysis and output (from content only sources).

Concepts - Structural Polarities

Which qualifies as a WOW! because of how it teases apart the different ideas and perspectives, the graphic is a bit odd but that it clusters the different approaches, recognise their common characteristics and spot the dichotomies.

Concepts - TOG

Which qualifies as a WOW! because the source material was a chat group from 3 people (of which I was part) which never discussed the synergies or lineage with the other approaches

Produce a synthesised map of all the approaches

Which qualifies as a WOW! because it provides an intelligent synthesis (see Summary) which is a novel yet directed synthesis effective stating that context is crucial, it also highlights the work of Hylton-Boothroyd whose work was in the 1980’s in Systems Analysis. A ‘weak voice’ compared with the megaphone proselytism of some modern authors and where Hylton’s brilliant ideas were hidden in some dusty books, previously locked away in a 1980’s writing styles (if any libraries still hold it).
